With no formal art training yet living with my wife Su, a formally trained artist, I journeyed into metal sculpture and art 36 years ago on my 40th birthday. My formal education includes a BS, MS and PhD in chemistry and I held a faculty position at the University of Arizona 1970 -1996.
Description of Medium
My works are created with new and found steel objects that I cut, bend, pound, grind and welds to shape into their final forms. These sculptures are inspired from nature: birds, mammals, reptiles, insects and flowers. However, I'll stray from reality to fantasy and whimsy. If I tried for realism, I would fail miserably. Occasionally I'll create abstract and nonobjective assemblages of steel.
