About the Artist
Crystal Beltran was born and raised in Tucson, A. She is a cancer survivor, and proud mother. At a very young age her grandmother taught Crystal how to hand sew and it inspired her to want to become a fashion designer one day. Many years later after working in a non-creative industry, Crystal decided to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer. Crystal believes fashion is a way for an individual to express who they are without having to say a word. Fashion is not about expensive clothing its about expressing individual style. After taking a textile class at PCC and learning about sustainability, I was inspired to combine two loves, fashion and art to create wearable art. La Mariposa is the spanish word for "The Butterfly" which represents her Latinx heritage and a way for her to pay respect to her culture. Much like Crystal's brand, the caterpillar's journey isn't always easy, but the transformation is always beautiful!
Crystal opened her Boutique La Mariposa Fashions in December of 2021 at Monterey Court Galleries with the vision to create wearable art for the fearless individual! You can visit the Boutique to purchase vintage T-shirts, hand painted vests and jackets.
