Oil painter Judith Austen and Native American Acoma Potter Evelyn Ortiz have shown together many times in the Boston area. This is their Tucson debut as a duet. Ms. Ortiz’s work is in the collection and on display at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
Description of Medium
Judith Austen 's recent desert series, "Contained" dare about bringing "intimacy" from the desert. Her series, "Water Close-up" are painted plein air at water's edge. Others are abstracted images from photographs by Alyce Kaprow. Evelyn Ortiz is a traditional Acoma potter. Her clay is taken from the Acoma clay caves, her pigments hand-ground from local rocks, her precise decorative motifs painted with a yucca brush.
