About the Artist
James Larson has over 45 years experience in graphic design, photography, and oil painting. Currently, he is focused on oil paintings on canvas. James was born in Tucson, AZ. He studied at the University of Arizona and UCLA when he lived in LA for 7 years and was a designer at Mattel Toys. He has worked directly with professional photographers setting up lighting for product and fashion photographs. James owned his own graphic design business for over 18 years. He has won a number of awards in graphic design, advertising and juried art shows for his oil paintings on canvas.
About the Process
James uses all of his training, instincts, experience and creativity to conceive large, colorful, bold oil paintings. His colors reflect and enhance the ever-changing light around us. My process is simple. First I take a photo of what I see that inspires me, then I put it into my computer, then I paint from that. During the painting process the paintings often take on a life of their own. As they say you need to just go with the flow. The fun is the journey, not the end result. My passion is creating large, colorful one of a kind oil paintings that knock you off your feet when you walk into the room and to help you see how beautiful simple things can be. “Every one of my paintings have a lady bug in there somewhere, Lady bugs are good luck.
