About the Artist
My name is Shazieh and I am a baker and potter living in Tucson, Arizona. Agave Pantry began in December of 2018, offering handcrafted baked goods, pottery, infused salt, sugar and spice blends along with indigo dyed linens and ceremonial items influenced by daily life in the Southwest. Quality ingredients blended, baked, and fired with care, these creations evoke the desire to slow down, take a moment and enjoy simple pleasures. Saffron, cardamom, mint, lavender, and rose delight the senses while spirit pots and alter items inspire deeper connections and rituals.
Note: Agave Pantry will be showcasing works at Casa Kira in- person Open studio as a guest artist on Saturday December 11th from 10 am to 3 pm.

About the Process
Simple wheel thrown functional pottery and ritual pieces made in my backyard studio; both food safe and food for the soul. Fired to cone 6 the wares are meant to be used and each piece is stamped with a dry cholla rib in varying sizes to mark it with the Sonoran desert.
Spirit Pots are fired under the full moon in a makeshift alternate pit fire/can. Each pot is wrapped and brushed with oxides, chlorides, carbonates, banana peels, copper wire, dry flowers and combustible materials to aid in the color acquiring process. Shredded paper and saw dust along with small sticks fuel the fire until it is left to cook overnight. The next morning they are cleaned, reheated, rubbed with hot local beeswax and finally finished with a crystal. These pots can be used to contain a smudge stick once your cleansing is compete or used to fill with small pieces of paper on which new moon and/or full moon affirmations are written. At the end of the year, revisit your hopes, burn them in a ritual fire and start again. A reminder to dream a little.
